Who is Alfredo R. Esparza?  Quoting Dr. Gilbert Cline, Humboldt State University professor of Studio Trumpet and Studio Horn, “Alfredo you are a survivor.”  The reason being is because no one around Alfredo ever encouraged him to pursue a musical career but with his own ambition and drive to fulfill his dream of one day becoming a composer he survived.  Today Alfredo R. Esparza is one of the newest modern day composers.  Having no prior knowledge or experience in music, Alfredo decided to follow his dream and study music.  He started from the begging with fundamentals of music and worked his way up to having private composition lessons with professor Dr. John Brian Post.  Having a strong interest in rhythms and percussion instruments, Alfredo performed and studied percussion with Dr. Eugene Novotney.  The use of percussion instruments is dominant throughout Alfredo’s music.  Alfredo performed in Dr. Novotney’s “Steel Pan Calypso Band,” which is one of the only steel pan bands in the United States.  This experience gave Alfredo knowledge in many types of world percussion instruments and rhythms, some of which include percussion instruments and music from West Africa, Trinidad & Tobago, Brazil, and Cuba.  Alfredo excelled in his music studies, which included music history, ear training, and took a special liking to music theory.  Studying Theory and Counter Point gave Alfredo the tools to begin composing.  Alfredo compares composing to constructing beautiful audio architecture.  Alfredo began studying composition with Dr. John Brian Post, professor of composition, music theory, music technology, and film scoring. With the guidance of Dr. Post, Alfredo was able to find his own voice and sound.  Alfredo combines all aspects of his acquired performances, experiences, studies, and personality into his creative and artistic compositions.

After receiving a Bachelor’s degree in music with an emphasis in composition, Alfredo then obtained a Professional Internship with The Walt Disney Company, working in the Music Department at the Disneyland Resort.  Alfredo then transferred to The Walt Disney Studios and began working on films as a Music Copyist.  He currently is working for The Walt Disney Music Group (DMG) as a Music Research Specialist.

Outside of working for Disney, Alfredo continues to compose original music, produce independent recording artist, and DJ.
